Gardens are something we can all enjoy, and we want to make more of the space around Bevern view so that our residents can enjoy theirs. The cost of removing concrete and replacing with flowers and fruit is not small but we believe that a sensory garden will benefit all our residents for years to come. Can you help? we are looking for donations however small, and people who can offer their time in the gardens we have or to help design and create. Most gardens offer visual appeal, but a sensory garden is designed to stimulate all five senses. People with disabilities can enjoy nature in a safe, tactile environment. We are looking to convert part of our old car park that is unused and ugly into a delight for the senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. Sensory gardens can also make a great contribution to emotional and physical health. They can be beautiful places to relax, reflect, meditate, contemplate and talk. When designing and creating the garden we will be looking at our residents abilities For example, raised garden beds and hanging baskets are easier for those in wheel chairs to access and enjoy. We will provide appropriate seating in the garden. For example, seats should also have adequate space around them so wheelchairs can fit alongside. Bright flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables to collect will also encourage the people we care for to use the garden. Any produce from our garden may be used in craft or cooking activities.
