About
On 11th July 2020, Myself (John Robertson), Youth Worker Curtis Banton and community gym users Josh Banton and Anton Dimarino will be undertaking a Spartan Super 10k obstacle race in Market Harborough to raise money for Bradby Club's Community Gym and Boxing facility. The Bradby Club (http://www.bradby.org.uk) is a 100-year-old charity for young people in Rugby offering a range of supportive and recreational opportunities for local young people. One of the most popular services for young people and adults alike is the Community Gym and Boxing - which operates through donations; but is available for free for those that need it, ensuring everyone has access to exercise and sporting opportunities to promote health, well-being and active lifestyles within our community. Currently, the gym is situated inside the club’s old, cold, leaky garage and we feel that both young people and the community deserve a better experience. The dream, is to have a newly built gym that is fit for purpose. This includes ensuring that it is insulated, dry and that can support the current growth and development of fitness and boxing programs that the club offer for individuals, groups and school provisions. All funds raised are guaranteed to provide a safer and more positive experience for the community. We are confident that the improvements will inspire, create pride and improve dedication to stay and continue training with us as we strive to build healthy, active lifestyles amongst our members. It would open up a range of new and exciting training opportunities for both current and new service users. This includes hosting other England Boxing clubs at our new facility for training/sparring and creating stronger links with other England Boxing clubs. A new community gym would also increase participation to our thriving boxing groups, offer improved boxing and fitness programs and also develop partnership works with schools to provide more supportive opportunities for young people. The Bradby Club work closely with young people who struggle with mainstream education and those at risk of or have already been excluded. We strongly feel that a new facility and improved resources would increase the chance of positive outcomes when working with these young people. Whilst young people mainly access this facility for free, we would increase revenue through better school programs and adult community memberships; money which will contribute to maintaining the centre and opportunities available. Plans are being drawn as I write this and a number of grants will be submitted to support this project. We want to do our bit and hope you see the value in this project and the difference it will make to so many young people and the local community for years to come.
