Natalia Zielonka is raising £500 for Wing and a Prayer, Wild Bird and Owl Haven
About
Hello and welcome to our fundraising page! We are Amy and Natalia, 21 year old students currently studying in the East Midlands. This summer we have committed ourselves to running a 10k run in order to fundraise money for the Wing and a Prayer Charity (Charity Reg. 1146448). We are going to run the 10k at the “Run Norwich” event on 7th August 2016. Wing and a Prayer is a Norwich-based charity completely run by volunteers and annually it takes in hundreds of wild birds in need that the public come across. It does an amazing job at rehabilitating the birds and giving them a second chance in life. Every year, it takes in many baby orphaned birds and hand-rears them before releasing them back to the wild; this is a very demanding job as the babies often need to be fed hourly for 12 hours a day during peak times. In some unfortunate cases when the birds are non-releasable they are given a permanent home at the haven or re-homed. Last year WAAP took in 366 birds with each averagely costing £25 to rehabilitate, relying only on public donations and fundraising. Please see attached pictures of some of the haven’s residents and patients. For more information please visit their website: http://www.wingandaprayerhaven.org.uk/ or Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/wingandaprayerhaven/?ref=ts&fref=ts We have been volunteering at Wing and a Prayer since 2013 but recently, being students in the East Midlands, we haven’t been able to spend as much time looking after the birds. This is why we want to fundraise for them. During our time volunteering at the haven we have met some lovely birds, formed fond memories of hand-feeding baby birds and providing care and love for the feathery-patients, as well as forming friendships with the other great volunteers. Amy: I have never run a 10k before and have only just taken up running in the local park, so this will be a challenge. Wing and a Prayer means a lot to me because it has created my passion for birds and taught me a lot; I am really excited about fundraising for them. Natalia: Like Amy I have very recently taken up running and I know that running a 10k will be challenging as well as the months of preparation for the big day. I am currently studying Zoology at the University of Nottingham and prior to this I started volunteering at the Wing and a Prayer which I can honestly say was one of the greatest things I committed to in my life so far. Wing and a Prayer is a hope and a home to many birds from chickens, garden birds and corvids to parrots and owls, as well as a loving place for its volunteers. Thank you very much for reading this. Please support our cause, any amount will help!
