Richard Burrow is raising £1,316 for Pearl of Africa Child Care
About
1316 miles is the distance Eileen and I will be cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. We are raising money for the Pearl of Africa Child Care (POACC), which supports the care and education of poor and orphaned children in Uganda. POACC works in partnership with the Molly and Paul Child Care Foundation in Uganda, which has approximately 2,000 children attending its schools in Uganda, of whom 200 otherwise homeless children live in homes provided by the Foundation. It also runs a health clinic. Winston Churchill is believed to have first referred to Uganda as the 'pearl of Africa' on account of its natural beauty. Unfortunately this beautiful country has not been immune to the ravages of AIDS. Uganda has a population of 36 million, of whom a massive 49% are aged 14 or under, giving Uganda the youngest median age of any country in the world. So educating and training these children so that they can find or create jobs for themselves is a massive challenge. Approximately 25% of the population live below the poverty line, according gto the CIA Factbook. Achieving an education and the skills to earn a living are the best prospect that these children have of liftiing themselves and their communities out of poverty. Please donate and put a smile on another face!
