sol Bewley-Lataix is raising £200 for CLAN Cancer Support
About
My name is Sol. I live in Aberdeen with my 2 mums, my little brother Rio and our 2 cats. In February 2014, one of my mum, was diagnosed with breast cancer. It has been a hectic time. I have learnt about mastectomy, chemotherapy and how it makes you feel ill and right now, it s all about radiotherapy. Clan has made me and my family forget about the cancer: they have taken me to laser tags and parties and have given both my mums lots of relaxing treatments. They always want to give me biscuits when I am there! My brother loves the toys in their playroom. Because they have helped us so much, I have decided to raise lots of money so they can help more people with cancer. My challenge is to read 9 books in 9 days before my 9th birthday! This is my schedule: Friday 12th December: miss Clarke, my p5 teacher, woodside school, has chosen 'The secret history of Tom True heart, boy adventurer' by Ian Beck. That book has over 305 pages and 47 chapters! Saturday 13th December: Louise from the wonderful tillydrone library has chosen 'Awful Auntie' by David Walliams. Sunday 14th December: Isaac, my friend, has chosen 'Goliath' by Tom Gauld. Monday 15th December: Sarah at city church has chosen 'The Chronicles of Narnia - the lion, the witch and the wardrobe' by CS Lewis Tuesday 16th December: Sabrina, my French teacher from French Workshop has chosen 'Les chevaux de la ville fantme' by Marie Pope Osborne Wednesday 17th December: my dad has chosen 'Frankie 's magic football - Frankie saves Christmas' by Frank Lampard Thursday 18th December: rob, my cub leader (27th Aberdeen) has chosen 'Boy Tales of Childhood', by Roald Dahl Friday 19th December: Angus, my cousin, has chosen 'Tom Gates is Absolutely Fantastic' by L. Pichon Saturday 20th December: Wendy, 'my Wendy', has chosen 'War Horse' by Michael Morpurgo Sunday 21st December: I am 9! I will update this page as I read the books! At 21.48 on Friday 12th December, i finished reading the first book of my challenge. The story is about tom finding his brothers who get lost in fairy tales. It was full of adventures! I give this book a great big 9 out of 10! It is 22.36 and I have completed my second book! It was 'Awful Auntie' by David Walliams. It had 404 pages. It is Louise from the tillydrone library who picked it. She chose very well because I really wanted to read that book! I liked it because it was funny: Gibbon did things like 'boil your shoe', 'pick up a lampshade as if it was a telephone', 'water the sofa' or 'iron the plants'. I give this book a decent 7 out of 10. Today I went to Isaac's house and he lent me one of his book. He gave me a pretty easy book to read for day 3 of my challenge. It was a picture novel and it talked about Goliath. He wasn't a fighter but had to defend his valley. It was easy to read but I didn't understand all the book and Wendy explained a few things to me. It is now Monday! A newspaper person called Harriett called me today so look out for the evening express! My brother loved it when the photographer took pictures of us. He giggled every time there was a flash. I felt like a star! Also, I completed my fourth book 'the chronicles of Narnia the lion, the witch and the wardrobe' by CS Lewis at 21.51. This book was given to me for free by Sarah from city Church! It was about a queen who was a witch. She wanted to turn all the good people into stone. I give this book 6 out of 10 because it was quite frightening. It was very well written and the story was good but it was just too scary for me . I will read it again when I m older. And finally a special thank you to Adam, for donating a fabulous 50 today, which means I have reached my target already. Good night, Wendy is now going to read a bit of Jeremy strong for me because that is the funniest book ever! For day 5 of my challenge, I read a French book. In this story, Tom and La find themselves in Texas in 1870. They have to help a cowboy called Le Maigre. I give this book 5 out of 10 because there was nothing funny and the adventure was plain. I do like reading French books but not that one Today Wednesday, I was on page 4 and 5 of the Evening Express. I felt ecstatic! I finished reading my 6th book at 5.54pm. It was 'Frankie's magic football - Frankie saves Christmas' by Frank Lampard, Chelsea midfielder football player. It was about Frankie, a schoolboy, who has to get Christmas presents but 4 people (robin the elf, maradona the reindeer, the Krampus and the abominable snowman) stands in his way. I give this book an average 6 out of 10 because it was very easy to read, very short and big writing. It was a cracking idea for a story but I am a bit disappointed! I came home feeling unwell so I took some calpol and my 7th book. I feel fine now! I read a book by Roald Dahl, chosen by my Cub leader Rob. It was 'Boy Tales of Childhood'. It had 219 pages and not many pictures. I liked this book immensely because it had lots of interesting events and lots of descriptive words. The most fascinating part was when Harald, Roald Dahl s dad, goes climbing dangerous cliffs one handed (he had his arm amputated after falling off a tree and that was a disgusting section).I give this book a tremendously great 10 out of 10. I finished this book at 20.14. Today Friday I read a book chosen by my cousin Angus 'Tom Gates is absolutely fantastic' by L Pichon. It was 7.54 pm when I finished the book. The story is about Tom going on a school trip and doing lots of fun things like building rafts, climbing walls, kayaking etc. I liked it because it had a great sense of humour. If you like 'diary of a wimpy kid', you will like this story. I give this book a massive 11 out of 10 . Today is Saturday and one day before my birthday ! Wendy picked a difficult book for me : 'War Horse' by Michael Morpurgo. I finished it at 21.51. I enjoyed this book because it was set in France and it's written from the horses' point of view. I was sad about all the deaths in the book. Overall, I give this story a tremendous 8 out of 10 because it was quite upsetting but it's a good ending. I can't wait for my birthday! I am very proud of myself, I have achieved my goal! And more! I wish everybody out there a Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy new year This is Sol signing off
