Michael Astley is raising £300 for The Albert Kennedy Trust
About
I can't believe I'm doing this but I plan to abseil from the UK's tallest sculpture in the spring. I'll be doing my thing at the ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture (no, I can't pronounce it either) in the QE Olympic Park, London. I don't really like heights, and I like falling from them even less, but that's exactly what I'll be doing on the 22nd of March this year. You probably think I'm crazy and you're probably right but that isn't why I'm doing this. I'm doing it because of the Albert Kennedys of this country who live lives they don't like every day and who, unlike me, don't get much choice in the matter. Albert Kennedy was a homeless teenager who ran away from multiple care homes where he was the victim of homophobic bullying, taking his chances on the streets of Manchester. In 1989, at age 16, he fell to his death from a multistorey car park after being chased by attackers. Even today, there are many young LGBT people who have been kicked out of their family homes. With no money, no friends, very little experience of life, and often no hope, they struggle to survive on the dangerous streets. There are others living in fear of intimidation and abuse right now, as you're reading this, because home has become an impossible place to feel safe. The Albert Kennedy Trust helps to support these young people with mentors, counselling, a safe place to live, and pathways into a healthy, independent life as adults. http://youtu.be/6FiVTCJXE9M Please give generously and I'll let you point and laugh at me all you want on the day. Don't forget to Gift Aid your donation! The charity gets to claim back any tax you've paid on the money you give, and it doesn't cost you anything extra. (90 in 3 days! I have upped my target. Will you help me reach it?)
