Ady Gray is raising £500 for MS Society
About
Every year since 2010 when he was diagnosed with the debilitating disease Multiple Sclerosis, Duncan Booth organises the 10-In-10 charity event to raise valuable funds for the MS Society. The challenge is to summit 10 mountains in the Lake District in no more than 10 hours. This wouldn't be such a killer event if it was say along the Helvellyn range where one gains height at the start then follows a ridge for another 10 miles or so picking up 9 peaks along the way. However, this event takes in the formidable "Newlands Horseshoe" as well as a chunk of the "Coledale Horseshoe" to give a trek of around 15.5 miles and a whopping 5700 feet of ascent. There is, of course, another sting in that, at 9 miles in, you drop all the height gained and descend to the valley floor after doing the Newlands section and then haul yourself back up another 2700 feet to the Coledale ridge and trek 5 miles to finish the day off. It may well finish me off... There are 3 escape routes; we won't be taking them. Work has hampered our "fell time"; we simply aren't as fit as we used to be. It's likely to be a hot day; the chance of travelling light is limited as we'll need a good 3 litres of water in our packs as well as trail snacks. The time limit is 10 hours and that is pushing it; we intend to go quick and eat/drink on the move. As you can see, the challenge is tough and we - in order to encourage you to donate - intend to make it harder by adding our own speed element; ideally, we'd like to crack 8 hours...
