Sophie Ravenscroft is raising £500 for Brain Research Trust
About
The brain is an incredibly complex thing; there are over 250 different conditions that can affect the brain and nervous system - some in terrible and life destroying ways. I work with people affected by neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease, stroke, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease and tumours and see the effects these conditions have on the person and their families. But research gives hope for the future. Unlike cancer or heart disease, there is relatively little money invested in researching brain conditions but there are big breakthroughs to come as a result. On Sunday 19th October 2014 I will be running the Abingdon Marathon. It will be my 25th Marathon and this time my goal is to raise as much money as I can for the Brain Research Trust to fund research into the conditions that will affect one in six of us. So please dig deep and give what you can. Last year I made the decision to donate my brain after my death. Many of us know about the organ donation register but did you know you can donate your brain to further assist the research efforts? You can find out more at http://hta.gov.uk/bodyorganandtissuedonation/howtodonateyourbody/donatingyourbrain.cfm To finish, a quote from Stephen Hawking: I can't say that my disability has helped my work, but it has allowed me to concentrate on research without having to lecture or sit on boring committees.
