Bethan Haston is raising £200 for John Muir Trust
About
On the longest day of the year (June 21st) I will be joining a group of adventurers from Arran Outdoor Education Centre to attempt to sail & paddle around the entire Isle of Arran, Scotland, in just one day. Although I have a bit of experience, sailing over 100km in 24 hours will be a huge challenge for me personally and will allow me the opportunity to see the island from a completely different perspective. As part of this trip I am fundraising to support the John Muir Award – a UK environmental award scheme which connects thousands of people a year with nature and wild places, wherever they are. If you love the outdoors and want to help others to as well, please consider donating here and sharing my adventure with others (#JohnMuirAward). All money raised will go directly to the John Muir Trust. The Voyage: - We will set sail at midnight on Saturday 20th, and aim to be finished by the following midnight on Sunday 21st. - We will be travelling using only human power (no motors) and will be in Hawk 20 boats. - All participation is voluntary, and all money raised will go directly to each individual’s nominated charity. Why support the John Muir Award? - I have changed and benefited immensely through experiencing wild places and I really believe in the importance of these experiences for everyone – especially for those less likely or able to get outdoors. - Over 30,000 people access nature every year using the Award, and since starting employment with the John Muir Trust two years ago I’ve lost count of the amount of positive stories I’ve heard from people taking part. - It’s a simple, flexible scheme that is open to people from all backgrounds. It recognises and gives value to spending time outside and looking after the environment. - The John Muir Award has always been free to use, allowing more people to create positive connections with nature. As with all the Trust’s work, it relies on membership, public donations and support to deliver the Award to more people.
