Our first fundraiser of the academic year is for Design and Technology. Mr Boothroyd and the team are asking for our help to raise funds for much needed kit so that our Charter North students can keep designing, creating and making. DT is a really popular subject here at Charter and the skills and enthusiasm the teaching staff bring translate through to some wonderful outcomes for pupils, whether it’s Y7s getting to grips with sewing machines or the large number of Y13s who go on to study design-based degrees. However, all this puts a huge strain on budgets and the department needs our help to make some running repairs on its core kit as well as invest in some new equipment;£2000 to repair the laser cutting machine, £1200 to service and repair the 24 sewing machines in the textiles department, £600 for a new mini lathe, essential for engineering coursework,£440 for GCSE revision guides for 3 classes, £400 for an etching tank, used to etch surface patterns onto sheet metal and £390 for three tablet devices to record projects for student coursework. Any and all contributions would be gratefully received.
