We are continuing to improve paths round the CREOS site keep it accessible for visitors all year round.
About
A big part of our work at Crouch End Open Space is maintaining and improving paths. Without our work, the site becomes muddy and flooded and very difficult to navigate in the winter. Making the paths useable means visitors can enjoy CREOS all year round. Effective paths also mean people stick to the defined routes rather than finding their way around muddy spots which can lead to the trampling of planting and which can lead to problems with local wildlife and vegetation.

We are currently raising money to support improvements to the path from the North London Cricket Club car park into the CREOS Woodland Walks. Work has already commenced by laying log edges and spreading aggregate but we will need additional funds to complete all the work that is required. The path finish will be similar to the hoggin paths we have already installed at CREOS which have been very successful.

£4,650 will cover the cost of the materials (aggregate and hoggin), hire of a compactor to create a smooth surface and labour costs if there are insufficient volunteers.

Help laying and compacting the hoggin will be needed on 26th January and possibly the following mornings until the job is completed. Finally, there will be a small amount of planting of native hedgerow shrubs alongside parts of the path where needed.

All donations and offers to volunteer will be hugely appreciated!

UPDATE 25/01/25

Unfortunately we need to postpone the extra session this Sunday to work on the path. We have had some issues with the hoggin delivery so we will not need any help just yet. We will announce another date once we have secured the delivery.

The good news is that we have found an alternative and cheaper source for the hoggin which has brought the overall costs down and we have therefore lowered the fundraiser target to £3,500.

Thank you for all your support so far, it all makes such a difference.

UPDATE 31/01/25

We have at last managed to secure the delivery of hoggin so we are aiming to get it all spread onto the path this weekend. There will be two work sessions, starting at 12pm on both Saturday and Sunday and working until 4pm. We would be enormously grateful for any help, even if it's only for a short amount of time. Tasks will include shovelling the hoggin into wheelbarrows, raking it and treading it down. We'll be meeting in the NLCC car park.
