Darren Haywood, GEZE UK's Regional Service Manager based at our Wigan branch, is cycling 200 miles from Edinburgh to Preston on June 21st, 22nd and 23rd in support of local charity Embrace Wigan and Leigh. Embrace Wigan and Leigh is a user-led charity dedicated to empowering disabled individuals and their families across the Wigan and Leigh boroughs. Since its inception in 2000, Embrace has been at the forefront of advocating for inclusivity, choice, and equality, ensuring that disabled people are valued, heard, and actively engaged in their communities. At the heart of Embrace’s mission is a diverse range of services tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. These include • SENDIASS: Providing free, impartial advice and support to families of children and young people (0–25 years) with special educational needs or disabilities. • Care Act and General Advocacy: Assisting adults in navigating care services and legal matters, ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes. • All You Need: A friendship and dating service designed to help individuals build meaningful relationships and combat social isolation. • Let’s Connect: Offering social activities like gardening and community allotment projects, fostering a sense of belonging and well-being. • Embrace Adventure Group: Engaging young people in outdoor activities to develop life skills, confidence, and independence. Embrace's commitment to community involvement is further demonstrated through various volunteering opportunities, enabling individuals to contribute to and benefit from the charity's initiatives. In recognition of its impactful work, Embrace was honored as the 'Charity of the Year 2024' by Lansafe Ltd, reflecting the deep appreciation and trust the local community places in their services.
