About

I AM began 2021 determined to see our 2nd home build project realised. While it seems 2021 had other ideas, we remain determined, certain even, that 2022 WILL be the year in which we are able to help Edith build a new home and new future for her family. We have committed to partnering with Edith and despite the road to honouring that commitment being longer than hoped, we will not step back from our pledge.

2021 has seen progress! With your help we have raised the funds required to purchase the ½ acre freehold land plot for Edith’s home and smallholding; and as of February 2022 we have now received donations totalling £4,520 towards the home build and £730 towards the facilities, such as solar power and rainwater harvesting! These are great achievements in a year where we have tried to adapt our fundraising strategy to maintain awareness of our goals.

We now continue into 2022 with a goal of raising the remaining £710 for the building project and £720 for the facilities! In the meantime, the trustees have taken a decision to begin the accommodation portion of the building project as we have sufficient funds to see this work completed (excluding solar power and rainwater facilities). This leaves the separate kitchen building and sanitary block to undertake. While it is not uncommon in Uganda to undertake a building project in a piecemeal manner this IS NOT our plan for Edith's home. Once we have begun the project we anticipate raising the remaining required funds to complete the accommodation and facilities while the work is ongoing, without needing to down tools.

In the last quarter of 2021, we made some applications to small grant giving organisations. But our time to commit to this is very limited and our remit also narrows the scope of organisations to whom we can apply. Below is a link to a supporting document we prepared to send with our applications. We are sharing it here as it is equally relevant to an individual as to an organisation who may want to consider donating to our work in 2022.
