Nick Wilson is raising £1,500 for CDH UK
About
During the month of October I will be performing a challenge to raise money and help promote awareness for the charity CDH UK. For those of you who are not familiar with the condition: CDH is the abbreviated name for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Congenital means born with , Diaphragmatic means of or affecting the diaphragm; which is a thin sheet of muscle that helps us to breath and keeps our chest and stomach contents separate. Hernia is a general term used to describe a bulge or protrusion of an organ, for example the stomach, through the structure or muscle that usually contains it. CDH occurs in approximately 1 in 2500 births and accounts for around 8% of all major congenital abnormalities. Previously I had not heard of the condition and it was only through meeting our new neighbours The Christies earlier this year that we learned of the recent passing away of their son Axel from the condition, sadly after only surviving 100 days in this world. Both during Axels treatment and after his sad passing Mervyn and Claire received tremendous support from CDH UK and it is vital that this charity can continue their excellent work providing support in this way to familys affected by CDH. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sl02MKwTLNc The Challenge. I will be attempting to perform a total of 2500 press-ups during the month of October in reference to the 1 in 2500 births that are affected by the CDH condition. Now back in my younger days this probably would have been a relatively straightforward challenge for me however after years of lack of exercise and sitting at a desk all day I am not as fit as I once was. To complete the challenge I need to complete 81 press-ups each day to make the required total of 2500, and considering that I also will need to have a few rest days it is probably closer to 100 which I will need to target for each day. As the month goes on I will give some updates on where I am with progress. For full details on the charity and the great work which they do please visit here: http://www.cdhuk.org.uk Please remember charities such as this can only continue their great work with your support. i.e. get your hands in your pockets.. Thanks for your support, Nick Wilson
