Fruit Patch is Oxford’s accessible, queer-led community allotment: a place to grow vegetables, flowers, friendships, confidence and community.
Since September 2025, we’ve been bringing LGBTQIA+ people together to get our hands dirty, learn new skills, spend time in nature and create a little patch of Oxford that feels like ours.
We believe everyone deserves somewhere to grow.
“It is an allotment but it is also much more than that. There’s a strong sense of belonging and inclusion here.” - Fruit Patch participant
🥕 More than an allotment
For many LGBTQIA+ people, particularly Disabled, trans and non-binary people, finding community spaces where you can truly relax and be yourself isn't always easy, and gardening isn't always accessible either.
At Fruit Patch, you don't need to know anything about gardening. You don't need to be able to dig. You don't even need to be having a good day.
You can grow veggies, water plants, learn something new, or just sit alongside other plant nerds.
“Growing up I wouldn't have necessarily felt able to participate in a community allotment or something similar, but I feel so safe & able to be me in this setting.” - Fruit Patch participant
🌻 A space that belongs to all of us
The people who come to Fruit Patch help shape it. Together, we choose what to grow and where. We decorate the space. We make it more accessible. We harvest and share the food we've grown. And people take home seedlings, seeds and new skills to keep growing beyond the allotment.
This leads to people making friends, confidence growing, and spending more time outside experiencing the healing power of nature.
“The space has supported the community and individual members' mental health, including my own.” - Fruit Patch participant
💚 We need your help
Our first year was made possible by Oxfordshire Community Foundation's Thriving in Nature grant.
That funding ends in September 2026, and we aren't eligible to apply to the fund again for another year.
We don't want Fruit Patch to stop growing just as our community is putting down roots.
Your donation will help us keep Fruit Patch going, supporting our regular gardening sessions and helping us pay for the plants, staffing, seeds, tools, materials and other essentials that make the project possible.
Whether you can give £5, £10, £25 or simply share this page, you'll be helping protect a space where queer people can connect with nature.
