About

Hamworthy Together is a joint community appeal set up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On this page, you can donate towards the fantastic, local groups who are working to help the most vulnerable people in Hamworthy and Turlin Moor.

The funding raised from this appeal will pay for:

- Emergency food parcels for individuals and families in crisis situations - Prepared cooked meals for residents who are extremely vulnerable due to age, health factors, or living on their own during isolation. - Distributing information leaflets to those residents who don't have internet access - Work to coordinate referrals for people in need - Community support work on Turlin Moor - Moor Community Food, a community store on Turlin Moor, for long-term discounted food provision.

Why donate?

Our partners reacted quickly to the COVID-19 pandemic and have been helping people across Turlin Moor and Hamworthy for months. However, as this situation goes on, it has become clear that the needs of the community are growing - especially when it comes to emergency food provision. On top of this, many of the charities who are doing the most to help have lost considerable amounts of income, which is making it difficult to keep our support going - just when it's needed most.

Your donations will pay for vital emergency relief here in Hamworthy and Turlin Moor. There are many vulnerable residents living all around us who are facing poverty or struggling with social isolation and because of this are in need of food, practical assistance and support.

We are a grassroots partnership of small charities and local groups. Many of us have been doing this kind of work for years, and are seeing a big increase in the demand for our help due to people losing their jobs or being forced to isolate. It has never been so important for us to work together and step up so that everyone can get the help they need at this incredibly difficult time.

Who's involved?

This funding appeal has been created by a partnership of groups and individuals doing fantastic work across Hamworthy and Turlin Moor. Our partners who will benefit from this funding include:

- Hamworthy Food Bank - coordinating food vouchers and emergency parcels - Poole Communities Trust - funding the Let's Talk Moor community worker on Turlin Moor - The Friendly Food Club- leading a project cooking and delivering prepared meals to residents in need - St Michael's and St Gabriel's church - running a volunteers group supporting people who are self-isolating and shielding.

Other referral partners and supporters in this initiative include:

BCP Council, The Adam Practice, Friends of Hamworthy Park, Poole Missional Communities, The Watersports Library, The PowerHouse, Play Moor Skate Moor, Mike White, local councillor, Julie Bagwell, local councillor.

How will the funding be used?

Every penny you donate to this appeal will go towards one of the partner organisations listed above. 100% of your donation will be spent on direct delivery of services and material costs for people in need.

If we meet our funding target, the money raised has all been allocated to specific costs that we know we will need to pay in the next few months. This includes:

- Food preparation and storage - Printing flyers - Volunteer expenses - PPE for volunteers - Transport costs for delivering food

If we exceed the funding target, any additional money raised will be set aside for emergency relief in Hamworthy and Turlin Moor over the coming months and years. We do not know how this crisis might develop, or how long it will take before things go back to normal.

Who is managing the appeal?

The appeal is being coordinated by Hamworthy Church (St Michael's and St Gabriel's), with the input of a steering group that represent all the partners. To see the full terms of reference for the partnership behind this appeal, click here.

Our partners have been chosen because of their existing work over the last 2 months to support residents. Not all of them are Christian groups, and none of this funding will go towards religious or political activities.

Hamworthy Church is a registered charity, part of the Church of England, and we comply with all charity regulations. The church itself has committed £1,000 towards this funding appeal from our own reserves, on top of whatever we raise through your donations. Please join us in giving your support!
