About
Award winning, international recording artist Sandra Godley has written, produced and recorded a song with teenage girls to bring hope and awareness to the slums of Nairobi to mark International Women’s Day 2020. The international gospel singer and Feed The Hungry UK trustee, Sandra Godley, wrote, recorded and filmed the video for the song during a two day visit to Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya on behalf of the charity and hopes its upbeat message will inspire people to help young women in the area. Kibera is the largest slum in East Africa; it's home to an estimated one million people, living in very poor and challenging circumstances and young women often experience inequality around education as a result of ‘period poverty’. The campaign theme for this year’s International Women's Day which takes place on Sunday 8 March 2020 is #EachforEqual. The theme is that an equal world is an enabled world and we can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women's achievements. The track entitled "I Am Me" is a song produced as part of the 'Gosp-Ability' project, which engages people who been affected by either a mental health challenge or physical disability. Sandra worked with a group of teenage girls from The Soweto Academy, Feed The Hungry's partner in Kenya, to write and record a song based on their experiences of the past, and hopes and dreams for the future.
