Fred D is raising £100 for Survival International
About
I'm going on a bikeride to the East, what route and for how long I'm not sure. Bilbao to Burma on a bamboo bicycle sounds good. So yeh, although 6 months would be mighty fine, I'm not counting on more than a week, for two reasons: 1. The bicycle is made from bamboo (the frame at least), handmade by me, and so I can't give you an appraisal, I'll let the road do that. But as I'm moving into woodwork after the ride, its a good test. 2. I have haemophilia, handmade by god, and an arthritic ankle to boot. But there's usually a way round these things. Any way, the plan is to raise as much money and AWARENESS for the plight of tribal peoples around the world who are being kicked off there land so we can mine their mountains (e.g. Papua New Guinea), cut down their trees (e.g. Brazil), and starve them by banning their age-old culture of hunting though allowing trophy hunters to continue, as is the case with bushmen in Botswana. I think there is a clear parallel between the continued "progress" in the West and the destruction of the environment and minority cultures, and currently there is an imbalance. By donating generously, Survival International will raise awareness and help tribal peoples to "defend their lives, protect their lands, and determine their own futures" http://www.survivalinternational.org/info www.woowaywood.com
