About
Before anyone says anything and I mean the rest of you on the ride, (because it is guaranteed someone will say something), it's not just me. Who are we? We have the Simpsons, Andy and Peter, ( Bart & Homer couldn't join us), Dave, Matt and Mike and myself, Iain What are we doing? Last year, the six of us intrepid (or is that insane) cyclists undertook to cycle from Morecambe, Lancashire, to Saltburn in North Yorkshire, a distance of 170 miles over some somewhat hilly terrain, over three days (video to follow) This year, we aim to go that bit further and have upped our target miles to 207 miles We also plan to hold a number of other events leading up to our departure at the beginning of July, including office quizzes, sponsored car washes, man baking, and if the pledges are high enough, maybe one or more may go as far as a sponsored waxing! Why are we doing this? Discussions began in the Twisted lip and took several pints to decide on Prostate cancer UK In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives. It will kill 10000 men every year, yet most men are unaware of the disease, tests are unreliable, treatments can cause life-changing side effects and research is badly underfunded. That needs to change urgently. Older men, (all of us participating in this event are approaching this group, somewhat cautiously!), men with a family history of prostate cancer and Black men are more at risk. Where are we doing this For 2015, we are carrying out a tour of North and East Yorkshire. Beginning in the market town of Malton, we are following the Yorkshire Wolds cycle way. This wends its way through the East Yorkshire countryside via Bridlington, Driffield, Beverly and Pocklington back to Norton-by Malton.. From there we ride through the North Yorks Moors National Park, over Blakey Ridge (stopping at the Lion for refreshments possibly of an alcoholic nature!), before dropping down to Middlesbrough. This will be a total of 207 miles, spread over the three days, an increase in 37 miles over last year (map to follow) So what do we want from you? To put it bluntly, we want your cash, dosh, wonga to help get to our target and help to eliminate Prostate Cancer. So dig deep just as we will be over the coming weeks in training and for the event itself! and remember, if you are a UK Taxpayer, please remember to Gift Aid your donation
