Hello!!
In August, we are taking on the challenge of walking 84 miles across Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for RTMinds (also known as RTProjects), an amazing mental health and suicide prevention charity in Durham.
This will be really tough! But it’s nothing compared to what some people face every day. County Durham has one of the highest suicide rates in England. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50, and people here are more likely to die by suicide than almost anywhere else in the country.
We'll be stopping on the way and inviting conversations about suicide with people that we meet. We'll record the conversations where people are happy for us to, and turn them into something beautiful to raise awareness of suicide, and remind people there is hope!
RTProjects bring kindness, community, and a sense of purpose to people who feel they have none. Nobody gets turned away from RTMinds. They will help people in crisis, and then they will help people to rebuild their lives using creativity, community and connection.
RTMinds is particularly important to me! I met Beano and Emma when I was at university - they sparked up a conversation with me in a coffee shop, and I felt their warmth and kindness straight away. Volunteering at RTProjects was my first experience of charity work, which i've built a career on, largely in thanks to them. They’ve also been there for me personally through some hard times, always supporting me and bringing a smile to my face!
We are walking for all the minds still fighting!!
Please donate if you can, even a small amount will help!
Wish us luck (and dry socks).
Oh, and RTMinds wan to say thank you!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vluLM6rglL0
