Martin Kenrick is raising £250 for Wigan & Leigh Hospice
About
After talking for what seems like forever I've finally signed up to a marathon, the Thames Meander Marathon on 29th August to be exact which I'll be running for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. 12 months ago I'd never had cause to step foot in a hospice so never knew what they do. Like many I figured it's a place to go for your final days but hospices do so much more and give so much to people living with and recovering from cancer. Wigan and Leigh Hospice has been an ever present in the community since I was a child and is a fantastic facility I'm proud to support. It's been there for my Grandad as part of his recovery and supported a number of family friends over the years and with your help can go on supporting people for years to come. The 26.2 mile course will start in familiar surroundings in Kingston and take me through some of my usual weekend route through Teddington Locks along to Richmond where I'll be into uncharted territory as I pass Old Dear Park and Kew Gardens. Next up will be Barnes where I ran my first ever 10k run back in 2007 and then onto my old betfair lunchtime run route from Hammersmith down to Putney Bridge. By this point I'll be halfway there and hopefully in good shape still to turn around and follow the route back to the finish in Kingston. To date the longest I've run was 16 miles earlier this year so another 10 miles will be a big ask but something I'm really looking forward to. I've chosen givey as they send every penny of your donations through to the charity. I am also paying for my race entry myself so whatever is raised here is purely for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. The target of £250 for donations simply the level Experian will match my donations up to but please just give what you feel comfortable with. As a bit of fun lets see whether I can raise more £'s than KM run in the lead up to the Marathon? As of 3rd June I've run 52km since signing up so am slightly ahead of the £45 raised so far... Thanks Martin
