Peak for Elodie
About
In May this year 5 lifelong friends will be taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for Elodie's Wish. A charity for a very special little girl. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is no small feat: a 24-mile (38.6km) route with 1,585 metres (5,200ft) of ascent, tackling Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) — all within 12 hours. Every penny raised will go directly towards Elodie’s upcoming DMI and NISE Stim intensive, which she will be travelling to Italy for in June. Since beginning therapy with Jennell, we have seen incredible progress. Elodie has developed improved head and trunk control, and during her last intensive she achieved her first kneel-to-stand step — a huge milestone for her. With this next intensive, combining Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) and NISE Stim, we hope to strengthen the muscles supporting her spine, improve her scoliosis, and ultimately avoid the surgery that has been suggested by the NHS. Travelling across Europe to access this specialist care is extremely costly — particularly as Jennell travels from America — but she is one of the very best in the field, and we will always do everything we can to give Elodie the best possible chance. Unfortunately, around 99% of Elodie’s care, therapies and specialist equipment are privately funded. While we wish the NHS could provide this level of support, it currently cannot — which makes every donation truly life-changing. What do the treatments involve? Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) is used to treat Elodie’s motor delays by improving her postural responses and helping her progress towards her developmental milestones. The therapy provokes specific, active motor responses through carefully guided exercises, stimulating Elodie’s neuroplasticity to build new neural connections and support the development of functional movement. NISE Stim (Neuromuscular Integrative Stimulation Enhancement) uses safe and gentle electrical stimulation to activate specific muscles and nerves. It supports Elodie’s alignment and posture, increases muscle activation (particularly important due to her low muscle tone), and helps to calm excessive tone and stiffness, which she experiences when frustrated. Thank you so much for donating, sharing, and supporting us. Every single pound really does make a difference. Finally, I am endlessly grateful to the boys for choosing to take on this challenge for me and my little girl. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
