Francis O'Hanlon is raising £350 for Help the Hospices
About
Hi chaps, I think palliative care is so important, particularly at the end of this first year working as a doctor - the best moments I've been part of so far have been with people who were dying, when a number of common symptoms such as pain, nausea and vomiting, agitation and distress are often encountered. These are traumatic for both the person and for their family and friends. The idea of 'dying well', and the dying debate has become much more open in the last years and I think that's fantastic - it's the only thing that we know we will all definitely do in our lives! The Palliative Care Movement and Help the Hospices do such wonderful work in relieving these distressing symptoms, helping people to open up about death, achieve important goals, comforting and caring for families that I would like to try and give something back. I thought it would be lovely to run the GNR - it's close to home though I've never done it before and the route takes me from Newcastle, along my drive to work and finishes at the sea. Here's a video about their work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv7aDATvGGk It would be brilliant if I could raise as much money for this cause which is close to my heart, and probably to many of yours too, as possible.
