I am fundraising for Ripple Africa which is a charity that works to improve the environment and local education in Malawi. As a primary school teacher in the UK, I am particularly interested in supporting the education projects of the charity. I have been offered a place to volunteer with the charity, which will involve me travelling to Malawi and both supporting the children and offering guidance and training to the local staff within the school. It is not unusual for a class to have over 100 children so it will certainly be different from what I am used to!
In addition to offering my skills I would also like to raise £1000 for the charity which will have a huge impact. Not all children have their own pens/pencils/paper so resources are shared. Additionally, many children sit on the floor rather than at desks. The resources and facilities that the children do have, are largely funded by the charity so charitable giving is vital.
There is a link below that shows you a snapshot of a day in the life of a young girl in Malawi named Catherine. You will see Catherine looking very happy in the clip as she collects the water for the day before making her way to school. Ripple Africa's work has enabled the school buildings, that you see, to be constructed. The charity also funds the teachers, blackboards and many of the other things that you will observe in the clip. I hope to fund raise £1000 so the charity can build on their current successes to help more children like Catherine.
