Vicki Costigan is raising £300 for Hug in a Bag, Blackpool
About
Thank you for visiting our Givey page. When you make your donation through Givey, the Charity receives 100% of the donation. Your details are safe with Givey and donating is completely secure. Whatsmore, they never share your email address with any third parties except the Charity you donate to. The ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon will take place on Sunday 2nd April 2017. Stuart is doing the hard bit and running 26.2188 miles to raise money for Hug In A Bag Blackpool (you can donate here on Givey.com) and for the Breast Care Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital via Blue Skies Hospital Fund (you can donate to them on JustGiving.com). I'm just the admin :-) When Stuart offered to run the marathon for a charity/charities of my choice I was thrilled. I was diagnosed with grade 3 invasive breast cancer in November 2015. I had surgery to remove the lump the week before Christmas last year and on Christmas Eve I received the news that my cancer had not spread......best Christmas present ever! I started chemotherapy at the end of January 2016 and within a couple of weeks had lost my hair. A wig and plenty of hats and scarves saw me through chemo and after that came 4 weeks of radiotherapy. Throughout my treatment I have received fantastic care and support from the Breast Care Centre, the MacMillan Windmill Unit and the Oncology Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital and from the Rosemere Cancer Centre at Royal Preston Hospital; so its been hard to choose which charities to raise money for! The charities Stuart will be running the marathon for are..... - Hug In A Bag Blackpool. This is a charity originally started in Sunderland in 2006 by 3 ladies, all with breast cancer, supporting each other through treatment. Their aim is to give one more hug in the form of a bag containing gifts, information leaflets and discount vouchers to every person diagnosed with cancer at The Breast Care Unit Blackpool Victoria Hospital. They recognise that women (and men) can feel alone and vulnerable at the time of diagnosis and aim to show support and understanding by creating these unique "hugs". If you would like to donate to Hug In A Bag then donate here at Givey.com. - The Breast Care Unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital covers Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde. Every year thousands of patients use their services. The doctors, nurses and staff do a tremendous job carrying out breast examinations, mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and other tests following GP referrals. The Breast Care nurses provide invaluable support and advice throughout each patients treatment plan. If you want your donation to go to The Breast Care Unit then donate follow our link on Facebook to JustGiving.com. From initial biopsies, scans and examinations throughout chemotherapy, radiotherapy and all the follow up appointments, I have never failed to be astounded by just how busy all of the cancer units and departments are. Your donations to either of the charity funds we are fundraising for mean a great deal to me and to the many people who continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer every day. A massive thank you to Stuart for giving his time and energy to training for and run the marathon and to you for your donations, it means a lot. Vicki x
