About
The Charter School North Dulwich is a coeducational, non-selective state school in the London Borough of Southwark. Like many London state schools Charter has very restricted outside activity space and the biggest of these spaces, the astroturf pitch, is in poor condition and after 20 years of loyal service the pitch needs to be replaced. The pitch will cost circa £125,000 to replace. The astroturf pitch is in constant use during the school day, during every period and at break and lunchtimes. It is the only space big enough in the school for football and other large team events. And, for a significant number of pupils, the astroturf pitch provides their only regular opportunity to participate in sport. The astroturf pitch also provides a space for local community sports groups such as Dulwich Village FC, Lambeth All Stars, DT Cobras, Dulwich Dad’s, Old Alleynians, Sam Da Silva Football, Football Magic Coaching & Birthday Parties & TCS Sports Academy. These groups’ use of the astroturf pitch in turn helps generate much needed income for the school. However, as the pitch reaches the end of its life some potential hires are put off by the poor condition of the pitch. Losing the pitch will have a profound effect on the sport offering at the school, on the wellbeing of the pupils and on the local community. The school has explored various grants for the much needed upgrade and have got through to the last stage in applying for a Football Foundation grant. However, to secure this they need to provide £35K towards the funding. The school has sourced £20K for this but the balance of £15k needs to be raised by the school’s PTA the Friends of the Charter School North Dulwich. As the Friends are a charity we can claim Gift Aid on your donation. The very generous offer from the Football Federation presents a once in a generation opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of Charter pupils and on our local community – we can’t let this slip through our fingers…please give generously.
