10 years ago, The Whitehawk Foodbank first opened its doors on The Whitehawk Estate in East Brighton! Thanks to supporters like you, over the past 10 years (through both COVID and the cost-of-living crisis) the Foodbank has supported over 2022 unique households with 18,032 food parcels. This equals over 162,200 meals! Can you help us continue to provide emergency food support? £25 covers the cost of an average single household parcel (food for 3 days and essential household supplies) £60 covers the cost for a parcel for a large family (5+) household BUT our vision is about more than providing emergency support. Our mission is to work alongside our community in Whitehawk to create positive, LONG-TERM change, eliminating the need for a foodbank at all! To this end, our COMMUNITY CAFE has run alongside the Foodbank since soon after we opened. It serves as an access point to a range of specialist advice and support services addressing the underlying causes of food poverty. It also serves as an important community space on the Estate. Other initiatives running throughout the week include: FINANCIAL INCLUSION, delivered in partnership with Citizen’s Advice, offers individuals support in maximising their incomes resulting in significant financial gains. FRONT-LINE TRIAGE SUPPORT via our Support Worker, helps individuals access appropriate support before becoming reliant on the Foodbank. 1:1 COUNSELLING, offering mental health support to those who would otherwise not have access. CAMPAIGNS & ORGANISING helping identify key local issues and support our community in campaigning around these. You can help support these initiatives: £15 covers the cost of one session with our Support Worker £25 covers the cost of one counselling session for an individual £80 for fresh fruit and vegetables for one week, available via our Cafe It is this broader, more holistic support that helps to reduce need for emergency food support and moves us closer to our vision of a community with no need for a foodbank!
