Guy Reed is raising £3,000 for Cogges Heritage Trust
About
Thank you for visiting our page. Toffee and Treacle are our Shetland ponies. We are now raising funds for a dry paddock to ensure they get the outside space they deserve. A pregnant Toffee was rescued from the roadside after being abandoned, she gave birth not long after. They where initially cared for by a local farm before both Mother and Son came to Cogges Manor Farm in 2013. Cogges has been home to Toffee and Treacle ever since. Treacle has been unwell over the years with reoccurring laminitis (inflammation of the feet) this is commonly caused by being overweight however, even with restricted grazing and weight loss he continued to become unwell. In 2023 Treacle was diagnosed with a condition known as EMS equine metabolic syndrome, this manifests as symptoms similar to as laminitis. EMS means that Treacle has a resistance to insulin similar to type 2 diabetes in humans. Treacle is currently on daily medication and always monitored for any sugar intake, he receives low sugar feed and soaked hay. Sadly grass is main source of sugar intake so he is only aloud on grass with a grazing muzzle for a short amount of time. This means that majority of the time both ponies are kept in. We would like to change this and give them the outdoor space they need, on veterinary advice we are needing to create a paddock with no grass at all, a woodchip substrate where they will have plenty of space. This new outdoor space will also benefit Toffee, who herself also requires restricted grazing, this is purely because she is greedy which is very common in Shetland Ponies. Both ponies would love nothing more than to be back outside enjoying the sun even the wind and rain and we would dearly like to see them have the freedom to run and play once again. Your donation will help raise the much needed funds to make this dry paddock happen, funding fencing , substrate, woodchip and a outside shelter. Thank you so much for your support.
