community film project celebrating Colchester’s connection to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and the Taylor sisters.
About
Twinkle Reimagined is a new community film project celebrating Colchester’s connection to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and the Taylor sisters.
The project is being delivered by Signals, an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation based in Colchester, in partnership with Level Best / Dacon Trust CIC, supporting people of mixed abilities through creative learning and community activity.
Many people do not realise that one of the world’s most recognisable nursery rhymes was written in Colchester in 1806 by Jane Taylor. In recent years, there has been renewed public interest in the story following the installation of the Taylor sisters' sculpture on Colchester High Street.
Twinkle Reimagined has been created to celebrate that local heritage while making creativity and storytelling accessible to everybody.
Through a series of workshops, participants from Level Best will help create artwork, animation and storytelling elements for a new short accessible animated film. The finished project will include subtitles and BSL or Makaton, ensuring the final piece can be enjoyed by a wider audience.
The project also recognises an important part of Colchester’s creative history. Over 20 years ago, Signals created a film about the Taylor sisters for Hollytrees Museum. Twinkle Reimagined is an opportunity to create a contemporary new version for modern audiences while continuing the spirit of accessibility and community involvement that shaped the original project.
Our aim is simple:
To celebrate Colchester’s history, support disabled creativity, and create something meaningful that the whole community can feel proud of.
Every donation helps us bring this project to life.
