SUMMARY

I'm completing a virtual UK 3-Peaks-Challenge by climbing a total of 1024 floors (equivilent to the sum of the 3 tallest peaks in England, Scotland, Wales) within 24 hours (assuming 7 hours of sleep, I'll be climbing over 60 floors every hour!), to raise money for Third Age Project which is an old age charity that is supporting older people as they battle against Covid19. Your support is appreciated.

THE CHALLENGE

We face an enemy that is invisible to naked eye but strikes hard and spreads fast. The most common victims of Covid19 are the elderly, especially those at upper age bands and with underlying health conditions, for whom it is fatal. Many of these people have been asked to to self-isolate for 12 weeks and are feeling lonely and anxious. This is where TAP comes in.

THIRD AGE PROJECT CHARITY

Based in the Camden borough of London, TAP is a small grass-root level charity that has been looking after the interests of older people for over two decades. It is a people-to-people charity who's goal is to transform older people’s lives through improving general health & wellbeing and supporting the building of new social friendships. Every year, they serve & provide support to 700+ elderly locals. On 20th March, they were forced to close their premises per government's coronavirus guidelines and most of their 70+ year old members were forced to self-isolate for 12 weeks. However, instead of stopping work, they adapted and launched a range of emergency services. Among other things,

their multiligual staff & volunteers rang hundreds of older people to check on them provided befriending services and emotional support via phone launched a home delivery service for essential food & medical to those self-isolating setup an emergency food-bank with substantial donations by local businesses sent weekly newsletters by email and post (as 2/3rds of members aren't online)

Last week, a TAP user produced 50 homemade birthday cards that they are sending out to people having their birthday during the period of self-isolation. Small things like this make a big difference to an old person living in isolation.

WHAT I'M DOING

Completing a virtual UK 3-Peaks-Challenge!

Coronavirus has disrupted plans all over the country, including my own plan of completing the 3-Peaks-Challenge. However, we are survivors and have learnt to adapt - and I'm adapting too. I'm going to be climbing (virtually) the three tallest mountain peaks in the UK - Ben Nevis (Scotland), Snowdon (Wales) and Scafell Pike (England). This will be achieved by ascending the total equivilent trek-height on the stairways in a residential building. To do this, I will be climbing a total of 1024 floors within 24 hours - that equates to 18,423 stair-steps! This won't be an easy feat. If I sleep for a total of 7 hours during the day, I will be left with 17 hours and will need to climb an average of over 60 floors every hour! No doubt fatigue and unbearable muscle aches will kick in after a few hours of climbing but I'll do my best to carry on!

If you find my efforts and this cause praise-worthy, please donate what you can so this charity can continue to do the wonderful and much needed work that they do for the elderly at this challenging time.
