Springbank Primary School in Eastwood, Nottingham, 'Everyone Can Sing at Greasley' Group and Eastwood Memory Cafe have come together on a really exciting project in creating a Christmas Charity Single to raise funds for those affected by dementia. The song "We Sing Christmas" has been produced and written by Caroline Salloway the Music Teacher at Springbank, including their 200 children and the Greasley group. It is available to listen to on Google Play Music, iTunes, Amazon Music and YouTube. Streaming music apps and sites return very small funds, so we have set up a Just Giving page for the cause instead.
Please give generously to this amazing community project and put a smile on the faces of those supported by the Memory Cafe. Alternatively, copies of the CD's can be purchased for £3 (or however much you wish to donate) from Springbank Primary School Reception or Diane Rowley at the Eastwood Memory Cafe, as well as any cash donations. Big thanks to Nottingham County Council who have sponsored the CDs too.
There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. 225,000 will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes. 1 in 6 people over the age of 80 have dementia. 70 per cent of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems. There are over 42,000 people under 65 with dementia in the UK.
Eastwood Memory Cafe's core ethos is for their guests and team of volunteers to come together as equals and ensure no-one is prejudged. Their long term aim is to engage with the local community, and beyond, to create a more dementia-friendly society and this project is without doubt, a wonderful start to achieving this aim.
