In 2024, our close friend Adam received a devastating diagnosis of stage four cancer at just 40 years old. A loving husband and father of two young children, Adam was preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Heart of Weston charity when he received this life-altering news. As a result of this diagnosis Adam was unable to climb Kilimanjaro, but his commitment to the charity never wavered and he worked stoically to raise over £3,500 on behalf of the remaining climbers. As we approach 12 months since Adam's diagnosis, and inspired by his strength, a group of his friends are now taking on their own climb: the Three Peaks Challenge. We'll be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, and as we use Adam's strength as our inspiration, it feels only fitting that we align to his values and beliefs in overlaying our challenge with greater purpose. We will therefore use our challenge as an opportunity to raise vital funds for the Heart of Weston, a local, community-based charity that has provided immense support to so many. Their incredible work includes providing life-saving defibrillators, offering crucial heart screening for young people aged 14-35, ECGs for adults, and essential first aid training for all ages. Adam will be joining us on our journey as much as his strength allows, embodying the spirit of the challenge. While we are a group of middle-aged men with varying fitness levels and our aspiration is to complete the challenge within 24 hours, our primary motivation is inclusivity. We are committed to ensuring everyone who participates completes the challenge, working together every step of the way, aiming for a realistic completion time of 28 hours. We understand that times are tough with the current cost of living crisis, and we welcome any donation, however modest. Every contribution will make a real difference to the Heart of Weston and the vital services they provide to our community.
