Yianna Karagiannakis is raising £1,500 for Hear Their Roar
About
I am proud to join HTR and set off on my first trip as a facilitator in The Gambia between 19th April and the 3rd May! Please sponsor me to get there! Hear Their Roar (HTR) works with children and young people from the slums and streets in Africa. These children and young people are going through unimaginable trauma, some are in gangs, or on drugs, many are being sexually exploited and all are experiencing domestic violence. We invest in emotional health and communication skills, restoring identity and renewing hope. We also work with the adults in the communities, be they parents/carers, teachers or social workers focusing on how to parent and care for children and adolescents. We connect Children and Young People in the first instance by using play, the underlying principle of UNCRC article 31, then moving into workshops focusing on understanding their emotions and ability to communicate. This becomes much more powerful in combination with work in the area of emotional well-being of the community as it feeds on the improvement in relationship and communication with the adults. Children and Young People who have been through our projects feel better equipped emotionally to understand and cope with the challenges of life. ‘Psychological and emotional trauma has devastating impacts on the lives of young people and their futures. Every young person has the right to healing from abuse and trauma’ The cost of £1,500 will cover: - Flights - Transfers - Visa - Accommodation - Food & water – 3 meals and lots of water a day / person - Transport Personal costs not included in the £1500 are: - Any injections or malaria tablets if needed - Personal travel insurance - Any spending money Thank you so much in Advance for your kind contributions to this amazing cause and for making my involvement possible! :D
