Sarah Speake is raising £2,000 for Action Against Cancer
About
Ten years ago Duncan Speake came up with the brilliant idea of a touch rugby match as a means of introducing his (many) friends from Edinburgh University to his (many) friends in Brill. They played for the 'Gentlemen of Calcutta Cup' after a restaurant they had frequented as students. It proved to be a perfect formula - friends + sport + local beer - with a contact match thrown in for entertainment in 2019. Sadly, Dunc passed away shortly after, leaving a huge hole in many people's lives - but his legacy of ensuring people stay connected has continued, with 2025 seeing the tenth tournament being hotly contested, now involving sons and their friends too. A perfect way to ensure a yearly reunion when life gets busy. Dunc was introduced to Prof Justin Stebbing in 2017 and loved his attitude of fight not flight. Justin said he'd aim to get Dunc seeing his son go to University, and that was exactly the approach Dunc needed. Sadly they didn't quite achieve that goal, but Dunc valued his support and admired him greatly. Since then, many more friends have been struck by cancer, so I'm all for raising money to battle that disease. The recent Aardvark/ Beaver Day has raised some money, but if you'd like to add a little more, you would be very welcome! Thank you for visiting our Givey page.
