Ten years ago Duncan Speake came up with the brilliant idea of a touch rugby match as a means of introducing his (many) friends from Edinburgh University - the "Aardvarks" - to his (many) friends in Brill - the "Beavers". They played for the 'Gentlemen of Calcutta Cup', named after a restaurant they had frequented as students.
Dunc was introduced to Prof Justin Stebbing in 2017 and loved his attitude of fight not flight. Justin said his aim was to get Dunc seeing his son go to University, and that was exactly the approach Dunc needed. Sadly they didn't quite achieve that goal, but Dunc valued his support and admired him greatly.
Since then, many more friends have been struck by cancer, so I'm all for raising money to battle that disease. The recent Aardvark/ Beaver Day has raised some money already, but if you'd like to add a little more, here's the link:
