About
UPDATE I completed the run in my personal best time for a marathon of 4h:12min:58sec. It was exhausting but a great event - bagpipe bands and all, and the weather was perfect. So far we have raised with your help 450 on Givey and 365 in cash and cheques. So we are getting close to the target of 1000 if we take Gift Aid into consideration. MANY THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT FOR PAFRAS. THIS IS WHAT I WROTE BEFORE THE EVENT I am running away (foreign travel) in Scotland on 28 September. I plan to run the Loch Ness Marathon for the first time, though this will be my 4th marathon in all. More seriously, lots of people in the Leeds area are running away from persecution or calamity in their home countries. This is a problem that becomes more serious every time there is another crisis such as we have seen in Syria and Iraq, but not forgetting hundreds or thousands who have fled terror and brutality in Africa and other places over the recent years. Problem is, resources to help these people have been cut as the Government clamps down and tries to save money, and as charities feel the pinch. PAFRAS does a great job in Leeds. I have personal friends who they have helped greatly but this little charity has had to cut services and staff as funds dwindle. We can't solve all the world's problems but we can do our bit where we are able to make a difference. So let's do something together. Please sponsor my marathon and help provide a bit more cash that will enable PAFRAS to supply more food and support services to vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers. I am putting in the training (up to 40 miles a week) and will (God willing) run the race, and will even sponsor myself!! So please join me in doing something for PAFRAS. Thanks for your generosity.
