Story
Hello. I'm Founder/CEO of the Humanist charity, A Quiet Revolution. I'm a Humanist celebrant too. I've been working to improve funerals and tackle funeral poverty since 2010.
PAY IT FORWARD
Imagine not being able to afford a funeral or wedding.
Families find it shameful and painful. We don’t want anyone to face that. Please give what you can to Pay It Forward.
Help a stranger in need. What a gift.
DONATIONS
We ask for a donation to our charity for every ceremony we deliver.
We invite donations from family and friends at any time here on our Givey page.
£77 - a big help towards paying for a funeral for a family in need (⅓ of the cost)
£95 - *the average donation* (We'd love it if you could match or top this!)
£144 - a big help towards paying for a wedding for a family in need (⅓ of the cost)
£230 - pays for a funeral celebrant
£430 - pays for a wedding celebrant
COLLECTIONS
Please consider inviting donations by having a collection among your guests.
WEDDINGS: These days, couples already living together often don’t need or want wedding gifts. If that's you, please think about inviting guests to make a donation to our charity instead.
FUNERALS: When planning a funeral, your funeral director might ask who you’re making a collection for. We’d be very grateful if you'd have a collection to Pay It Forward for another’s funeral. Your celebrant can help organise this with the funeral director.
COSTS IN CONTEXT
WEDDINGS: The average wedding costs £14,400. The wedding celebrant fee at £430 is only 3% of the cost. Couples can spend more on print and favours. So the good news - it’s easy to preserve a bit of the budget and help another couple get married.
FUNERALS: The average Funeral Director’s fee is £4,000. They usually pay the celebrant £120. The celebrant spends hours meeting with the family, offering advice, designing the ceremony, writing the script, conducting the ceremony. We invite families to donate more to pay on a sliding scale and meet the real costs.
OUR IMPACT
We deliver around 150 funerals and 100 weddings a year. We directly support and advise around 800 individuals - couples and family members. All these individuals and families feel the direct benefit of our skills and experience, crafting meaningful ceremonies and avoiding debt. With an average of 100 witnesses at a ceremony, we model change to around 25,000 people every year. Not bad for a tiny charity with a big vision.
