Patrick O'Grady is raising £300 for Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)
About
"It's simple really: go where the patients are". So said the founder of MSF, Bernard Kouchner. Coming from a medical family with parents who both work(ed) for the NHS, I wanted to run for a charity that offers the healthcare benefits that here in the UK we have freely available. MSF (Doctors Without Borders) delivers emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare. They do this regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation. The needs of these people outweigh respect for national boundaries. Donations are translated into tangible and undeniable benefits: 7 = medicine to treat 68 people for malaria 10 = emergency dressing kit 20 = tests 80 people for tuberculosis 44.67 = treatment to prevent a woman who has been raped from contracting HIV/AIDS 80.34 = covers the cost of 3 days cholera treatment 134 = measles vaccinations for 1,500 children MSF are neutral, impartial and independent and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.
