wHoo Cares looks after the health and well-being of residents of the Hoo Peninsula (predominantly ME3 postcode with some ME2). In tackling health and well-being we also address social isolation. The Cliffe Woods Santa Parade will help fund many ways to support the growing need we see locally. Having started by offering befriending services to those isolated using an amazing team of volunteers we have grown the organisation to help in so many more ways: -We operate over 15 different groups and activities of a social and support nature. Such as bereavement groups, games groups, coffee mornings, carers groups and more. All giving people a chance to get help, advice, or meet socially and form friends in a comfortable environment - We provide transport to groups, activities and medical appointments. We operate a minibus to help get people to our groups, beyond that our team of volunteers provide transport. The medical transport is often vital as to get to Medway hospital from Grain, for example, is an hour and 30mins on a bus with 1 change for a second bus or a £60 taxi, which is just not viable for those who can’t drive. - We take people shopping. We operate a shopping bus to take people to a selection of supermarkets in order that people have fair choice a fair cost. - We offer in home befriending. There are many people who are ‘confined’ to their homes or struggle to get out and we have volunteers who will visit them weekly and spend time with them - We offer telephone befriending. As above we have volunteers who will call people so that they have people to talk to regularly We provide respite for carers looking after loved ones with dementia. The befriender (staff) will engage in meaningful activities and spend quality time so that the carer gets full benefit from the respite - Christmas Day Dinner. We put on a Christmas Day dinner for those who have no family or are on hard times. - We signpost to specialist organisations for support
