Forkin' Festive! A Santa Run for Elodie
About
This Christmas, the incredible women of Slow as Fork Run Club are coming together, lacing up their trainers, putting on their Santa costumes and running for a very special little girl, Elodie! Elodie is five years old and has faced more challenges in her short life than most people will ever experience. Born seven weeks prematurely with a severe brain injury, Elodie lives with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, cerebral vision impairment and hearing loss. She is unable to walk or talk and relies on others for all aspects of her daily care. But what Elodie lacks in physical ability, she makes up for in determination, strength and the most incredible fighting spirit! Elodie's Wish was created to give her every possible opportunity to develop, progress and achieve things that once seemed impossible. Every year, we aim to raise £25,000 to fund the specialist therapies, intensive rehabilitation programmes and essential equipment that Elodie needs, much of which is not available through the NHS. These therapies have already helped Elodie achieve some incredible milestones, including taking her very first sip of liquid. Something so many of us take for granted, but for Elodie, a moment we once only dreamed of. This year, we're also hoping to take another huge step forward. Alongside funding Elodie's ongoing treatments and intensive therapies, we want to begin raising money towards exploring MUSE stem cell therapy, an emerging treatment that we hope may one day offer further opportunities for Elodie's development. This treatment remains experimental, and its safety and effectiveness for children with Elodie's conditions have not been established, but we want to explore the research and specialist medical advice available. What makes this Santa Run even more special is the wonderful community behind it. Slow as Fork Run Club is about so much more than running. It's about women supporting women, friendship, encouragement and making sure everyone feels included, whatever their ability. Having already welcomed Elodie into their community and made it possible for her to participate alongside everyone else, it means the world to see these amazing women now coming together to support her future. Every mile run, every pound donated and every bit of support brings us closer to giving Elodie more opportunities to reach her potential. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single woman taking part, everyone cheering them on and everyone who donates. You're not just supporting a Santa Run. You're helping us continue to fight for a little girl's future. Together, we're running for hope, running for possibilities and running for Elodie's Wish.
