We are setting up this fundraiser to help support the local tea plantations in the Hanthana mountain range near Kandy, in Sri Lanka, helping provide food, education, health care and higher living standards. We are currently volunteering at a school called the T.E.A. Project, which provides education and some meals for those in need. We will be hiking the first stage of the Pekoe Trail to help gather some small donations to help support the project and improve the quality of life for those working in the plantations. Exploitation in these areas is very common, with those who work on the plantation receiving only 3 euros a day (~1200 lkr), having to pick 18kgs worth of tea; if they come short of this quota, they do not receive the full payment. Of course, 100% of these donations will be going towards this charity, and every little bit helps!
