Historia

We’re the charity that saved the Kennet and Avon Canal which runs from Bristol to Reading. Now we work to promote the Canal to the benefit of all its users, the communities through which it passes, and its heritage

We offer boat trips at locations along the canal (Bradford on Avon, Devizes, Hungerford, Newbury and Reading) as well as operating our accessible boat fleet from Great Bedwyn. Our Bruce Accessible Boats enable disabled people and their families to enjoy holidays and day trips on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

At our site Crofton Pumping Station, our 1812 Boulton & Watt steam powered beam engine, is the oldest working beam engine in the world that is still in its original location and capable of performing the task for which it was installed.

At our canal museum in Devizes visitors can learn more about the working history, decline and restoration of the canal. Our museum is open to the public (please see our website for opening hours) and we also welcome schools and other group visits.

Our cafes along the canal also offer the opportunity to relax and enjoy our beautiful waterway while enjoying refreshments from one of our catering partners.

For more information on our attractions along the canal or to read more about our work to Promote, Enhance and Protect the Kennet and Avon Canal, please do visit our website.
