Vicki Carter is taking on the big challenge of swimming the 20 miles from Catalina Island to Los Angles. She should start the swim on the night of the 21st September, (LA Time) swim through the night and then land near San Pedro before the wind gets up in the afternoon. She will follow Channel swimming rules and wear only a swimsuit, hat and goggles. She has a large boat about 10 meters away which will set the route and carries Vicki's crew. who will prepare her feeds, swim alongside her for support, when needed, and take care of communications to anyone following from the shore. This swim is the third in a series of swims - which if she completes it will bring her a ‘Triple Crown”. She swam the English Channel in 2019 - a 21 mile swim from England to France and she swam around Manhattan in 2024 which is 28.5 miles. At the end of last season only 18 British Women had completed this challenge. Also struggling to stay afloat after 30 years in the waters of Hackney is Immediate Theatre, founded by Vicki’s sister Jo.
