In 2008, 2 months before her wedding to Mark, Chris' daughter Lisa had her driving licence revoked due to an eye condition known as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). This took away her independence and she lost her job. Lisa's form of RP effectively means she has tunnel vision. If a row of people were sat in front of her and she was talking to one of those people, she would not be able to see the people either side of that person. She also doesn't see if for example someone reaches out to shake her hand.
Lisa is not alone, there are thousands of people out there with similar conditions. The good news is that a cure is theoretically possible. The bad news is lots of money is needed to find this cure. Any donations instead of Birthday gifts, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and will help.
