I'm joining the Wheely Tots team for the Space Race to help reach our target of covering 507 miles by running, walking or cycling during August. That's the distance to the International Space Station and back again.
I joined Wheely Tots as the Projects Coordinator last April. Since then, I've been lucky enough to work on a huge variety of important projects and met many inspiring people from my local area, Haringey. Highlights include supporting a mums group at a local primary school to become more confident cyclists and being part of a cohort of women to become cycling instructors .
More recently, and in response to COVID-19, I worked alongside some volunteers to develop a foodbank on Broadwater Farm Estate through lockdown. This was a really rewarding and humbling experience - and a real joy to meet such brilliant people doing great things at an incredibly challenging time.
Cycling's definitely helped to keep me grounded during the last four months, so I'll likely be completing my miles on my trusty tourer, with maybe a short few runs thrown in.
Each £100 raised will fund:
- a balance bike & 20 minute walking / cycling session for a local vulnerable family to improve their health & wellbeing and sense of family connectedness
- repairs for a bike to allow a key worker to avoid public transport and feel happier about their commute
- a 2 hour walking / cycling session for an adult or family: this improves confidence, creates a positive micro community interaction and helps people keep on with their walking and cycling.
