Diverse Theatre That Creates Change

Maya makes diverse theatre that creates change, bringing together organisations and individuals who passionately want their work to enable social change and racial justice in the arts. Through our work, and that of other incredible diverse-led organisations, we are beginning to see greater representation of ethnically diverse communities on and off stage. But there is still a long way to go.

BENNY AND THE GREYCATS, is our vibrant new musical, inspired by a true story of migration, that tells the story of an Anglo-Indian family who swap playing in a swing band in South India, for a new life in 1960s Sheffield.

We urgently seek support to take the musical to the next stage of development. We have successfully raised the majority of the funds needed for our project but without essential funds to cover a shortfall of £4,000 we will not be able to bring in the performers and musicians to help us realise the shows full potential.

Donations will support Maya towards the costs to explore and test out our musical with actor/singers and to share with audiences in London, Sheffield and Coventry for a work-in-progress performances in July 2021.

We are so close to achieving something special with Benny and this next phase will prove crucial. The result of this will set us on course to rehearsing and touring a full production next Summer when we plan to tour Benny across the UK, but we need that support to get us over the line now.

By joining our campaign, you are investing in positive change within our industry and an opportunity to champion a project which has the potential to resonate with audiences globally, inspiring new generations of theatregoers who can finally recognise themselves and their stories on stage and ultimately feel empowered to tell their own stories.
