Story
MRKH Stars is run by Co-Directors Vics Lane and Tk Kennedy, and strives to support young people living with MRKH, a rare gynaecological health condition that affects 1 in 5000 women. MRKH Stars provides peer-peer support from young people going through the same thing, at the same time.
MRKH stands for Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome. It's a condition often diagnosed at around aged 16/17, and it mainly affects the reproductive system and the ability to fall pregnant.
People with MRKH usually have a vagina and/or uterus that didn’t develop fully, or may be missing entirely. Due to this, people with MRKH are unable to get pregnant, they will never be able to carry their own baby and, due to the underdevelopment of the vaginal canal, penetrative sex can be painful without treatment. Being told as a teen that you can never carry a baby is devastating, and we are here to honour that and support teens living with MRKH.
MRKH Stars is fundraising to be able to keep offering support to young people with MRKH.
Peer support on this journey should not be viewed or treated as a luxury, it is a necessity, and we hope to be able to provide an accessible support system for anyone living with MRKH who needs or wants it.
