Mothers' Union is global Christian movement working towards a future free of violence, poverty and injustice. MU in Leicester is raising funds to support MU in Kiteto, Tanzania in their project to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation in their region. There is no medical reason for FGM, which causes long-term physical complications. Ezereda Chambala, leader of the project in Kiteto, says: "Efforts to change harmful traditional practices require the co-operation and understanding of community leaders, policymakers, and the people who have experienced the hardships this practice causes."
