About
On the 13th December 2019, I will be attempting to summit the highest active volcano in the world; Ojos del Salado. At 6,893m it is also the second highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere and will be the highest mountain I have ever attempted by a considerable altitude. With the support of the Berkeley Foundation, I will be aiming to raise £3,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trials Collaboration Charity. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. This means a person's own immune system attacks the protective layer (myelin) that covers nerve fibres and causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body. More then 2.5 million individuals worldwide live with the condition and it is also the most common cause of disability affecting young adults. The exact cause of MS is unknown and it is unclear why the condition develops in some people but not others. A combination of genetics and environmental factors appear to be responsible. There is no cure...yet. MSTC aims to use generated income by undertaking pharmaceutical clinical trials to devise and administer research-led clinical trials thereby providing greater access to potential treatments to more MS patients. MSTC is currently running and supporting a landmark trial investigating the effect of a cholesterol lowering drug, which can be used as a treatment for progressive MS (the most advanced and currently untreatable form of the diseases. The phase 3 trial is now underway, offering hope for thousands. For more information on the trial, the link is: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(13)62242-4/fulltext The Berkeley Foundation established in 2011, dedicated to its vision to make a real difference by helping people to improve their lives and participate actively in society and thrive through their own efforts. The Foundation has worked diligently with the MSTC to achieve its goals, contributing a significant amount to the development of these novel trials. As a member of the Berkeley Middle East, Africa and India team based in Dubai, I feel compelled to work with the Berkeley Foundation, to raise awareness and ask for your support to help continue the fantastic achievements of the MSTC. Every pound donated will make a difference in identifying, supporting and developing innovative ideas to find the elusive cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Thank you for your support!!
