On 17th May Louise, Elizabeth, Mandy, Ella, Jill and Simon will be hiking 15 miles through the heart of Nidderdale to raise vital funds for Open Country Wakefield.
Nidderdale is famous for its stunning reservoirs, rugged moorlands, and steep trails. While we will be navigating through this beautiful landscape on foot.
Many people with disabilities face physical and social barriers that keep this scenery out of reach. We will be taking on these miles to ensure that "the great outdoors" truly means everyone.
Who are Open Country?
Open Country are an award-winning charity based in Thornes Park, Wakefield, that helps people with disabilities access and enjoy the countryside. Their motto is "Out There Together," and they prove every day that a disability shouldn't be a barrier to a breath of fresh air.
How Your Donation Helps in Wakefield:
The funds raised from this 15-mile hike will go directly toward supporting the Wakefield hub’s life-changing programs:
Adapted Cycling: Maintaining their fleet of tandems and specialized "duet" bikes.
Nature Force: Supporting conservation projects where members help with tree planting and habitat restoration.
Accessible Transport: Funding the adapted minibuses that get members out of the city and into the green spaces of Yorkshire.
Walking & Adventure: Providing trained guides for accessible walks, archery, and outdoor outings.
The Impact
By donating, you aren’t just funding a "nice day out." You are helping to combat social isolation, improve mental health, and provide a sense of adventure for locals in Wakefield living with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, or sensory impairments.
